Potty Train you Pet Dog at a Young Age
Start young! This holds true for training your dog as well. Young puppies will grasp new things quicker than their older counterparts. Since puppies have an impressionable mind, they tend to assimilate new things in a better manner.
If you do not take the pain to teach your puppy basic toilet behaviour, your house may end up stinking all over. Additionally, you may find your pet's pee and poop lying all over the house, be it on your furniture, carpet or your own bed! In order to avoid such messy situation you need to effectively potty train your dog at the right time and in an appropriate manner.
First thing that you need to do is to be aware of the signs given by your pet dog when he needs to relieve himself. Usually your pet will start feeling restless, go round in circles or sniff and scratch at the door. When your dog exhibits such time, you must immediately take him towards his poop area.
A leash can help a great deal while teaching your pet dog the appropriate place to urinate and defecate. Tug at the leash gently to guide the dog to the required place to pee and poop. Doing so consistently over a period of time, will habituate the dog forever. A good time to do so for your pet is early in the morning, after food intake and before going to bed. Do not forget to praise your pet dog every time he does it correctly.
A common mistake that most of the dog-owners do is to physically punish the dog when he pees and poops at the wrong place. You must remember that the dog is still in its learning stage and needs time to learn it completely. As a trainer you need to be patient and tolerant for such mistakes and occasional accidents. At such time it is a good idea to communicate with them in a firm voice, letting them know of your disappointment.
Taking your dog outdoors for walks is also a good idea for them to pee and poop. However, ensure that they do not do it anywhere they like. Set up a proper place for them to eliminate their body waste in the outdoor as well. Otherwise they may end up messing your garden, or even worse, your neighbours.
The key to success in potty training your pet dog is to be persistent. It may be easy to get frustrated at times and leave the training mid-way. However, doing so will not solve the problem of finding your dog's pee and poop all over your house. Training your dog is a very small price to pay for all the great moments that you will enjoy with him later!
